California Bail Law
When someone is arrested in California, they are taken to the nearest jail and booked. A judge or magistrate sets bail based on California's Uniform Bail Schedule, the severity of the charges, the defendant's criminal history, and flight risk.
Most families cannot afford to pay the full bail amount in cash. A licensed bail bondsman posts the full bond on your behalf in exchange for a premium — set at 10% of the total bail under California Insurance Code § 1800.4.
The standard bail bond premium is 10% of the total bail amount. This is non-refundable and regulated by the California Department of Insurance. Some clients — including military veterans and union members — may qualify for a reduced 8% rate.
Once the bond is posted, processing time varies by facility — typically 4-8 hours at large facilities like Twin Towers in Los Angeles, and faster at smaller city jails. We expedite every release as much as possible.
